The vision of the last few years is now largely a reality. Data and digital professionals are required to work differently, to use new kinds of tools, and increasingly to change how they think about data and data management, all at an unparalleled pace.
But while business leaders are seeking more data analysis and insights, higher security and closer collaboration, much of the traditional IT Infrastructure in business today is unsuited to the task.
Older servers are often unsupported and struggle to accommodate the newest applications, as well as creating security risks. Networks are frequently unstable. IT departments are held back by their ‘technical debt’, unable to move at the speed the business requires.
Making sure the basics are right may not be sexy, but it’s the key to the future performance.
The Birth of Bedroq
After growing Modrus over 13 years into an MSP serving 139 businesses, I’d experienced most of the ups and downs that an IT services company goes through and learnt a great deal in the process. Since selling the business, I’ve been investing in, advising and mentoring technology businesses. I’ve met and worked with some very smart people and got to see how a range of companies operated. During this time, I’ve uncovered deeper insights into what works, more importantly, what doesn’t, and how to help businesses change.
I hadn’t intended to start a new business, but that changed when I was asked by an ex-client for help with his acquisition of a large energy business. It was time, I decided, to put the band back together (actually it was mostly a new band). We worked with the client and their team to carve out the business he was acquiring from a much larger holding company and set about building a solid foundation from which they can be more agile in the future. In the process we created our ‘blueprint’, now a core and dynamic management tool.
Based on my recent experience, there are two observations I would make. The first is the extent to which technology is now a central pillar of so many businesses. This means it’s not just the concern of the IT department, important as they are, but a critical responsibility of CEOs as well as operations, sales and marketing leaders.
Secondly, many businesses build their technology on out-of-date or unsuitable infrastructure, which means that problems are compounded, or simply shifted to another part of the estate. It didn’t take much of a leap to work out that many companies were likely to be in a similar position. So, when we turned the band into a company, we settled on the name ‘Bedroq’.
Bedroq is a managed service IT business whose approach is to focus fully on the fundamentals – the foundations of your technology. Our ‘blueprint’ tool is now highly developed. We have a talented and committed team and we’re keen to place ourselves at the service of other CEOs who may also be experiencing IT pain.
So, here’s our simple test:
What do you, your board and your IT team really think about how the technology works in your business?
If it’s slowing you down, like wading through treacle, and you want something done about it, then we’d love to talk to you.
