Why should you use SharePoint shortcuts?

By using shortcuts from SharePoint to OneDrive or File Explorer, you can streamline your access to files and folders that you frequently use. This can save you time and the headache of finding that one file that you always forget where it’s saved.

Adding SharePoint Shortcuts to OneDrive – Step-by-step guide:

  1. Navigate to SharePoint, and the Files(s) or Folder(s) that you wish to create a shortcut for.
  2. Along the top bar there will be an “Add shortcut to OneDrive” button.
  3. Click it and SharePoint will automatically add this to your OneDrive.
  4. This can take a couple of minutes depending on the size of the file / folder that the shortcut is for, so be sure to refresh your OneDrive / Windows File Explorer.
  5. There you have it, quick and easy access to your frequently used files / folders.
  6. Important to note how to remove the shortcut if you no longer need it in OneDrive.
  7. Right-click the folder, scroll to OneDrive options, then select “Remove” – DO NOT delete the folder as this may delete it off of SharePoint.
